Anglo-Chinese School (International) principal Gavin Kinch and Nanyang Polytechnic students have collaborated on a four-part podcast series called 'The Call Up', set to launch on June 27, which aims to help Singaporean pre-enlistees and their families better understand National Service through stories from BMT graduates, full-time servicemen, NSmen, and regulars.
A new four-part podcast series titled 'The Call Up' has been developed to provide Singapore an pre-enlistees and their families with a deeper understanding of National Service (NS).
Conceived by Gavin Kinch, principal of Anglo-Chinese School (International), in collaboration with students from Nanyang Polytechnic, the podcast will launch on June 27. It will feature first-hand accounts from Basic Military Training (BMT) graduates, full-time National Servicemen, NSmen (reservists), and regular military personnel. Through these narratives, the series explores the entire enlistment journey, emphasizing the common experiences and personal development that arise from military service.
The project aims to demystify NS for young Singaporeans approaching conscription, offering insights into the challenges, camaraderie, and life lessons that define the service. He took to Weibo on June 25 to chronicle an ongoing experience with the Hong Kong airline. He shared that his luggage had been lost for three days and upon countless attempts to enquire about it, the responses were half-hearted. He had flown from Melbourne to Hong Kong but waited on the plane for nearly three hours before takeoff. However, Wu Chun said he refused to board the plane unless the airline could guarantee his luggage would be on this new connecting flight. He alleged that a Cathay Pacific employee confirmed this, with a Chinese female staff member assisting him upon arrival in Manchester. To his disappointment, his luggage was nowhere in sight when he landed in Paris. Furthermore, after waiting in the country for three days, he said it had yet to be found. Concluding his post, he implored fans to reach out with any information they have on the female Cathay Pacific staff member he encountered in Manchester.
