A New York man was charged with attempting to light an infant on fire.

Deputies were sent to investigate a gas station in Tyre, New York, after reports of several fires in the building, according to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office. Upon arriving, the deputies found two suspects, who were detained immediately.

A 1-year-old child covered in a flammable liquid was also discovered by authorities, leading investigators to believe that the two suspects intended to set the infant on fire. Police also discovered a 4-year-old abandoned child in the cab of a nearby tractor-trailer. The child had sustained head injuries and was taken to Geneva General Hospital before being airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital, officials said.One of the suspects, Jamie Avery, was charged with second-degree aggravated attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree arson, second-degree attempted arson, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
