Schools \u0022should come with playgrounds, not graveyards,\u0022 the chief of a Saskatchewan First Nation said following the discovery of nearly 100 unmarked graves at the site of a former residential school.

and discovered findings consistent with 83 unmarked graves. On Tuesday, leaders said another 10 graves had been identified, bringing the total to 93. Of those, 79 are believed to be children and 14 believed to be infants.“These are not the final numbers,” Wolverine said at a press conference in Saskatoon.

A special council has been formed that includes residential school survivors, elders and community members to provide guidance. In attendance on Tuesday as a show of solidarity were representatives from the English River First Nation chief and council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, Metis Nation-Saskatchewan and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner.

Thousands of unmarked graves have been located across Canada using ground-penetrating radar at sites that once housed residential schools.
