When it comes to joy and happiness, the Jaguars have chased them and let them slip through their fingertips multiple times this year. But here's how they're staying on an even keel.
Still, even through the bumps in the road, the substance of what they've said and done on the field hasn't changed. Every week the team signaled to media propositions that they are close, that they are a play or two away. To have that come to fruition, made them truthtellers."Short-term memory, you come in on Monday, you watch it, you make the corrections, and you put it to rest as you’re onto the next [game]," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday.
Jacksonville has also lost to last-place teams, including the Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos . The parity within the league has never been better. It wouldn't be a surprise to see an eight-loss team beat a playoff-caliber franchise this late in the season. Having that mindset tells Pederson they have the"right" leaders in the fold, which can set a path for the team to succeed.
Entering the 13th week of the season, there's not much more Pederson can say to the players for motivation. It's moreso a matter of them taking it upon themselves, leaning on self-leadership, which is a reflection of what Pederson told the team Sunday against the Ravens, that it's players, not coaches."They've stayed the course through the hard times this season, some of the tough losses we've had and they don't seem to get too high or too low.
"That’s one of the things that I’ve been impressed with our staff, in moments of what seem like chaos on the field, there’s a lot of calm." Perhaps nothing more describes how Pederson has impacted the team than what Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard said after the game Sunday. His confidence level in Pederson is vast.
