The global pandemic has created even more domestic labor, the bulk of which has fallen onto women. And there's evidence that it will hurt their careers and help the careers of men who aren't similarly burdened.

Of course you could argue that the exact same thing happens all over corporate America. Even as more and more companies offer parental leave to women and men, it’s still generally only women who take it. And their careers take a hit because of that. We think of this as a personal issue — a decision every family makes on its own. And it certainly is that. But it’s also a systemic issue, one that has consequences that ripple out far beyond that individual family. I was in a women’s leadership group once and we were going around the room sharing our frustrations.
