DARTMOUTH, N.S. — The Nova Scotia Community College is increasing the number of medical lab technologists trained annually in a move to bolster the province’s workforce.
The institute will be boosting the number of program seats from 40 to 60 this September, just one year after introducing a second lab tech training program in the province — a hybrid program through the province’s partnership with the Michener Institute of Education at University Health Network. “Medical laboratory technologists are critical to our healthcare system, and it is an in-demand career,” said Brian Wong, Minister of Advanced Education. “These additional seats will help train more healthcare professionals, faster.”New $5,000 bursary to support skilled trades students at NSCC
Additionally, 12 people with medical laboratory technologist training internationally or elsewhere in Canada have completed Michener’s 16-week bridging program, helping them prepare to work in N.S. Of those, nine have passed their licensure exam and are qualified to begin work.
