NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson proposes the city take over mass transit and form a new agency, Big Apple Transit
New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson on Tuesday released an ambitious plan for the city to take over control of all of the city’s mass transit including subways, buses and bridges, saying it was the only way to fix the crumbling system.
“Transit is at the heart of who we are as a city, and transit is at the heart of the crisis that we’re in now,” Mr. Johnson said during his first State of the City speech at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens.
