UPDATE: NYPD officer stabbed during confrontation in Coney Island released from the hospital. AClineThomas has the latest.
Police said an officer was walking on West 8th when he saw a 57-year-old man standing outside of a silver SUV that was blocking traffic holding two knives. One was 16 inches long.said after the officer gave orders to drop the knives, the suspect lunged at the officer.
Police said the suspect continued to come towards officers and after giving numerous orders they fired four shots.
