"I wanted to post on Facebook just to remind people that there are rattlesnakes right here," she said. "I've seen a lot on my hikes, but never this low. It was in the grass and the shade; it was really hard to see. That was the scariest part. When you're hiking, you're looking for them, but when you're in a highly-trafficked area, you don't expect it."Haley Bechard, owner of Utah Rattlesnake Avoidance, confirmed this was a Great Basin Rattlesnake.
She added that rattlesnake season is starting a little late this year because it's been such a long winter. She said she thinks hikers will start to really see them late-May/early-June.
