The IAAF policy bars Semenya and women like her, with testosterone levels of 5 nanomoles per liter or above, from competing in events between 400 meters and a mile. Semenya must consent to treatment with hormone-suppressing drugs that would reduce her testosterone levels to below 5 nanomoles per liter, and maintain that level for six months before she could compete in any major international competition.
