Olympic Games Broadcasting Rights to be Shared by EBU, Warner Bros. Discovery in Europe

Following a secret joint bid from Warner Bros. Discovery and the European Broadcasting Union , the media rights for the nextThe new rights agreement covers the 2026-2032 period, which includes the 2024 summer games in France, the 2026 winter games in Italy and the 2028 summer games in L.A.

The news comes following a tussle in 2018 when Discovery Communications purchased the European rights for its network EuroSport, leaving European public service broadcasters out in the cold. There was much disapprobation among European fans with patchy coverage of the Tokyo 2020 games on free to air television.

Subsequently EBU and Warner Bros. Discovery launched a joint bid to acquire media rights for 49 European territories. IOC President Thomas Bach said: “We are delighted to have reached a long-term agreement with two of the world’s leading media companies. The EBU and its Members provide unparalleled broadcast expertise and reach across Europe, and Warner Bros. Discovery, through the recent combination of Warner Media and Discovery, represents one of the world’s largest media and entertainment companies across all programming genres and platforms.
