New details have emerged about the “divide” inside Channel Nine’s Paris Olympics contingent with some staffers displeased to be staying in budget accommodation in the outer suburbs.

Channel Nine staff in Paris for the 2024 Olympics are reportedly “divided” between journalists unhappy with their hotel rooms and non-union TV staffers scrambling to salvage coverage of the event.

Precipitating the industrial dispute, Nine CEO Mike Sneesby last month announced 200 job cuts as part of a $30 million cost-cutting plan due to plunging advertising revenue and shrinking audiences. “But at the same time that we're being told we need to work harder than ever before because money's tight and jobs are being axed, we see management go and splash all this cash putting themselves up in one of the best hotels in Paris.”

Media insider and Blackbox founder Rob McKnight believes the “optics” of Mr Sneesby’s trip are bad but argued the CEO is in Paris to drum up vital advertising deals for the broadcaster.
