Opinion: College Area plan update survey is not really seeking public input [Opinion]
” : The survey referenced is disingenuous, as the two choices given are those supported by the city.
Neither choice respects the will of the community and both upzone much of the College Area to destroy single-family neighborhoods. This process is being railroaded through by Mayor Todd Gloria and Heidi Vonblum of the Planning Department. The illusion of community involvement is just that. We are given the choice of bad and worse, and the earlier plans that represented a 70-plus percent increase in housing units — which is more than the 59 percent that the San Diego Association of Governments Series 14 projections from December 2021 project the College Area will need by 2050 — were abandoned with no reasons given.
They keep referring to the survey as a tool for community members, but do not mention that anyone on planet Earth can take this survey and need no connection to the community. What a farce.
