to worship is one of the most deeply-held in our state Constitution and, as a pastor, it’s one I’m grateful for every single day.
But an attack on one of our freedoms is an attack on all of them, and that’s why I’m so concerned about recent efforts by politicians to by intentionally making it more difficult for Ohioans like me to vote and put issues on the ballot that will help our communities.A group of extremist politicians recently introduced legislation to kneecap our voting rights by limiting access to ballot drop boxes, creating confusing voter-ID requirements, eliminating early voting the Monday before Election Day, and shortening the absentee ballot request period.
This one, House Joint Resolution 6, would have moved the goalposts when it comes to passing citizen-led ballot initiatives, increasing the percentage of votes an initiative would need to be successful. And while the resolution may be beaten for now, we must stay vigilant. It could come back.
