Opinion: Republicans have no right to hold our economy and benefits hostage over politics [Opinion]
: One of the provisions of this bill “imposes work requirements on social programs.” It is obvious the GOP chooses to remain ignorant and exhibit contempt about people in this country who rely on public food assistance programs to survive.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities report on food stamps more than 40% of those on food stamps in California are working families. More than 61 % are in families with children; and more than 19% are in families who are older adults or are disabled. And 59% have incomes below the poverty line. It appears the GOP wants older adults, disabled people, and children to work if they want to qualify for food stamps.
