Opinion: San Diego police should be able to use these valuable tools to fight crime [Opinion]

” : Why would we not let police have access to streetlight camera footage? I am so tired of groups like Transparent and Responsible Use of Surveillance Technology San Diego trying to handcuff police officers from apprehending criminals and making our city safer.

The nation is concerned with the rising crime rate, and I think technology like cameras and drones can help reduce it. The only people who fear police access of cameras are criminals and conspiracy theorists. We don’t need involvement of city councils and citizen groups to smother the police any more than they already are.The viewing and use of street camera footage keeps our communities safe and ensures only those culpable of crimes are held accountable.

This is standard criminal justice when investigating crime, whether law enforcement is investigating a former president or someone perpetrating a murder in the Gaslamp District. Since when would it be better to get City Council approval to view footage than that of an unbiased judicial officer?
