Oprah Winfrey is breaking her silence on the controversy surrounding Jeanine Cummins’ new novel 'American Dirt.'
Despite getting Winfrey's endorsement as the latest choice for her book club, the work has drawn controversy from reviewers and social media., Barbara VanDenburgh wrote the novel"reeks of opportunism, substituting character arcs for mere trauma.""It’s clear that we need to have a different kind of conversation about American Dirt and we welcome everyone’s thoughts and opinions in our community," she captioned the video.
She added that she's spent the last few days listening to members of the Latinx community to"get a greater understanding of their concerns." "I hear them, I do," she assured."So, what I want to do is bring people together from all sides to talk about this book and who gets to publish what stories, and I'm hoping that that is going to resonate with many of you and your concerns."More critics of the book include Mexican American actress Sara Ramirez, who played Dr. Callie Torres on"Grey's Anatomy."to read an article about"fake- social justice literature.
