Overdose crisis puts Pa. grandparents in need of help as they care for more and more children

She said she qualifies for Medicaid and food stamps, which she said are “a great, great, great help.” She said her oldest grandchild is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, another positive in their lives. She said her daughter used drugs during pregnancy and her oldest grandson, at age 3, found his mother after she died. “I just worry about them mentally,” she said.
State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne County, has focused on the needs of such grandparents for several years and says more should be done.
