According to authorities, the driver attempted to escape arrest, hitting the police officer and throwing his passenger from the vehicle in the process.
that John Knecht, 57, was pulled over by Honey Brook police chief Calvin Wilson on Sunday. Wilson determined that Knecht had an active arrest warrant issued for probation violations, according to investigators, and attempted to take Knecht into custody.
According to authorities, Knecht refused and escaped, hitting Wilson with his pickup truck. Knecht’s passenger, 36-year-old Brandie Beiseigel, was reportedly thrown from the vehicle during the incident and also hit. She was taken to the hospital where she later died of her injuries. Pennsylvania State Police and Central Berks Regional Police later found Knecht at a home in Berks County, where he was hiding in a crawl space and taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Knecht is facing charges including homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was denied bail, WFMZ reports, as he was deemed a flight risk according to online court records.
