Not a bad start to his rookie season.An MRI revealed a minor flexor strain and a minor UCL sprain, the 25-year-old right-hander said Tuesday afternoon.“It could have been much worse,” Jacob said. “A minor UCL sprain. It’s scary when you hear UCL, but minor is good.”
Jacob will not throw for at least two to four weeks and go from there with the hope that he will pitch again this season. “I was really excited to be here, really excited to help the team,” he said, “then unfortunately this happened.”was given his first start in the majors at first base asA natural shortstop, Batten began playing first base his first full year in the Padres system and has logged 139 innings there at the minors, not including playing first base almost exclusively in the Arizona Fall League in 2021.“I put a lot of work in on my defense, in season and out of season,” Batten said Tuesday afternoon.
