The woman said she and her boyfriend, the driver, had an argument while driving in Bethlehem Township, police said.

A Monroe County woman is facing criminal charges after police said she grabbed the steering wheel of a car as it traveled on Route 22, leading to a crash that injured the driver.

The 24-year-old woman from Tobyhanna was charged with DUI and reckless endangerment following the Jan. 21 crash in Northampton County. She is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.. The driver and the passenger were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson for treatment, Pennsylvania State Police said. Troopers found the heavily damaged Nissan in a cornfield after it had rolled multiple times, traveling off the highway and up an embankment. Troopers said scarring on the road indicated the car had an abrupt change in direction, and there was a strong smell of alcohol inside.

The woman told police she was drinking that night and was a passenger in the vehicle as her boyfriend drove from a party in Allentown, court records say. The couple got into an argument on the highway, and the woman grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it, leading to the crash, troopers said.
