“Every day, across the greater Houston area, there are probably 12 to 20 patients asking us for help.”

Houston Methodist Willowbrook’s new birthing suites offer home-like environment for natural birth

Patients wanting transportation help may visit the group’s website to request a ride. Requests are picked up by one of almost 100 volunteer drivers. Some patients require multiple rides a day or a week. King recalled reasons patients have needed this service, including one patient who had their own vehicle destroyed in a fire but needed to go to vital doctor appointments.

“There are requests from people who live in the Tomball, Klein, Woodlands and Aldine areas,” King said. “They are looking to get rides to the Woodlands, or Willowbrook. We just don’t have enough people. There are about 80-90 others all around Houston. All of us are doing what we can. We give our time, vehicle and gas. There is no cost to the patient.”
