MANILA - Justin Brownlee scored in his usual fashion in the first two games of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals, but the celebrated import was lacking in one crucial department for Barangay Ginebra -- assists.
"I really wanna focus on getting guys going, trying to get guys open looks, and I always try to focus on defense," he added. He restored order in Game 3, as Brownlee tallied a team-high 9 assists while scoring 24 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. His last two dimes were crucial: Brownlee passed to LA Tenorio for the backbreaking three-pointer with 1:47 left that gave Ginebra a 90-82 lead, then dished off to Japeth Aguilar for the bucket that iced the game with 31 seconds to go.
Cone, for his part, said Meralco's defense was a major reason for Brownlee's lack of assists in their previous two games. He noted that the Bolts had kept the Gin Kings out of their usual rhythm, and so they were unable to move the ball the way they usually do.
