NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao's fiery demeanor at practices and games has a specific purpose: to bring out the best in his players. The 2003 PBA MVP and the league's oldest active player, who first worked with Guiao as a member of the Powerade Pilipinas team some years back, said in a "2OT" interview that's why he likes Guiao.
"The tongue lashing you get is just a motivational speech. Either you're strong enough that you take it, understand that he motivates you, brings out the best in you," the 47-year-old big man said."If he's not screaming at you, that means he has no use for you," he said. "By the end of the day when you go home, you better be worried, you might be traded or you might be replaced.
"Everything he says to us during the game, once the game is over, it's done. There's no seeing you outside . . . If he sees you outside and you with your family, he approaches you and talks to you as a friend," Taulava said.
