Pearland 11s oust Santa Fe from Section 3 Tournament
At 5522 Fite Rd., there’s lots of fight on display by the Pearland Little League 11-year-old all-stars so far in the Section 3 Tournament.Facing elimination for a second straight night, the Pearland pitching trio of Josh Reiser, Carson Maher and Cody Conway scattered five hits in forcing the Santa Fe all-stars to go 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position as they sparked their teammates to a big 3-1 win at the Pearland Dads Club Complex Friday night.
After a bleacher full of Pearland fans exhaled with that strikeout, mentally all began preparing for Saturday night’s championship game that will pit Bellaire against manager Kevin Helm’s crew. Game time is 7 p.m. Maher was credited with the victory on the hill, working 2 and2/3 innings. His stint began with a nifty 5-4-3 double play and forcing Santa Fe to strand runners on the corners in the fifth.
Perhaps Maher’s biggest out was striking out Santa Fe’s clean-up batter and stranding those two runners on the corners. And if it weren’t for a sprawling catch by Conway in center field in the third, Santa Fe may have left a runner in scoring position that inning. Conway however wasn’t quite ready to send a videotape of it to ESPN as a web gem. He hopes to save the true web gems for Bellaire.
