The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Peloton knew about issues with the Tread+ but did not report it immediately.
has agreed to pay a $19,065,000 million penalty for failing to immediately report issues with its Tread+ treadmill and continuing to sell them after they were recalled., said Peloton was required by law to report that the treadmill contained a defect “that could create a substantial product hazard and created an unreasonable risk of serious injury to consumers.”
The commission said that beginning in December 2019 and continuing into 2019, Peloton received reports of incidents involving the pulling under and entrapment at the rear of the treadmills. I want to be clear, Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that we recall the Tread+. We should have engaged more productively with them from the outset.
