She was last seen on surveillance video at a gas station in Selma early on a Sunday morning.
The body of a young woman who disappeared two months ago was discovered by Selma’s police chief, who went on his own to check an area that had already been extensively searched.Jolissa Fuentes, 22, apparently drove off a cliff in the Sierra Nevada foothills shortly after she was last seen at a Selma gas station before dawn on Aug. 7. Her crumpled Hyundai Accent was found Monday more than 400 feet below Trimmer Springs Road along Pine Flat Lake, and she was dead inside.
Early in the search, police had begun focusing on Pine Flat Lake, a 45-mile drive from Selma; the last pings from Fuente’s phone had come from there. Fuentes had driven to a gas station around 4 a.m. on Aug. 7, a Sunday, after attending a family gathering in Selma. She was seen on surveillance video making a purchase and then driving away. Her sister later saw two missed messages that came from Fuentes’ phone around 5:30 a.m. The family reported her missing that evening.
The silver car was finally sighted around 6 p.m. in a clump of trees at the bottom of a cliff. A recovery team rappelled down to investigate and found the body.
