SINGAPORE - Some 359 people are being investigated by the police for their alleged involvement in scams or acting as money mules.The 234 men and 125 women assisting in investigations are between the ages of 16 and 78, said police.
The suspects are believed to be involved in more than 1,200 cases of scams, which among other things, include phishing, bogus investments, jobs and loans, and impersonation of government officials. Those found guilty of cheating can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined, while those convicted of money laundering can face jail time of up to 10 years, a maximum fine of $500,000, or both.
