Lina Mino, the Sansom Park police officer who was shot in the face during an active-shooter training in November, is suing the training company for negligence. ...
On Nov. 5, Texas Police Trainers conducted an active-shooter training at David K. Sellars Elementary School in Forest Hill, about 30 miles west of Dallas. Several area law-enforcement agencies were in attendance.
Mino was shot about 2:10 p.m., with the bullet entering her left eye and exiting above her left ear. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and underwent brain surgery to remove bullet fragments. The lawsuit says that an active-shooting instruction company would not normally allow loaded firearms and real ammunition on the site of such a training, and that Texas Police Trainers was negligent in failing to ensure all attendees were “unarmed and disarmed.”At the time of the shooting, only law enforcement was inside the school, the lawsuit says. Mino was dressed in plain clothes and participated as an actor in the training. The incident was investigated by the Texas Rangers.
