Beth Comstock may have literally written the book on mastering change, but she’s under no illusion that navigating the unknown comes easy. In fact, “messy,” is how she chooses to describe her life’s current, change-filled chapter, one that began after three decades on the front lines of leading disruption at the highest levels of corporate America.
When Comstock stepped down from GE in 2017, she embarked on what she terms her “gap year,” finally giving herself permission to take the much-needed sabbatical she aspired to do but always sidelined. She believes leaders, herself included, can fall into the trap of believing they can “bend time,” that hefty workloads are heroic, and that a packed schedule and efficiency go hand in hand.
