El presidente de Guatemala, Alejandro Giammatei, se dirigió por primera vez a la nación para referirse a las protestas que reclaman desde hace más de una semana la renuncia de la fiscal general, y rechazó los hechos de violencia y vandalismo.
Giammatei no hizo ninguna mención respecto a las demandas ciudadanas para destituir a la fiscal, Consuelo Porras. Los inconformes señalan a Porras de intentar evitar que el presidente electo, Bernardo Arévalo, tome posesión en enero mediante distintas maniobras jurídicas. La alta funcionaria judicial ha hecho caso omiso a las reclamaciones y pidió al gobierno que actúe contra las manifestaciones.
La Conferencia Episcopal de Guatemala pidió al presidente que exija la renuncia a la fiscal general y a sus colaboradores atendiendo el clamor popular y “en defensa del bien común”, dijo en un comunicado de prensa.
