The Duke of Cambridge has spoken in the last hour about Britain's resilience in the face of adversity as the coronavirus pandemic affects many.

He said: 'Whenever and wherever adversity strikes, the people of the UK have a unique ability to pull together. The way that local communities support those affected shows the very best of our values and human nature.

'The public’s desire to help in the wake of tragedy needs to be managed and channelled in the best possible way - which is why the establishment of the National Emergencies Trust was so important.'The National Emergencies Trust is a centralised relief fund that works with local organisations to ensure financial support is delivered to those who need it most.

When the NET was set-up in November 2019, William said: 'We all dread the day when you are needed. But I know that, like everyone here, I am glad that you now exist.'
