Heaney fared relatively well in four starts against Houston this regular season.

Heaney, 32, also started Game 1 of the ALDS against the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits and a walk before he was replaced by right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning., He yielded a 2.75 ERA in 19 2/3 innings pitched, but had to work around trouble with a 1.271 WHIP against the reigning World Series champions.
As the Rangers did against the Orioles, they could let Heaney face Houston’s batting order one time through before replacing him. Heaney had a 3.20 ERA when facing a batting order for the first time this regular season, but it inflated to 4.52 the second time around and 6.00 the third. Heaney hasn’t pitched past the fifth inning of a game since Aug. 29 against the New York Mets, and was moved to the bullpen in September after Nathan Eovaldi returned from the injured list.
Dunning, who hasn’t pitched since Game 1 of the ALDS, could potentially piggyback Heaney once more. Houston is marginally worse against right-handed pitching , though Dunning allowed up nine earned runs in seven relief innings pitched against the Astros in the regular season.Shawn McFarland , SportsDay HS reporter.
