Redfall didn't quite hit it out of the park, becoming just the latest Xbox console exclusive to underwhelm. The Series X/S generation is continuously looking more dire for Xbox, with a line-up of first-party games that don't qualify as must-plays.

There's been a long drought when it comes to quality Xbox exclusives, and the disastrous launch of Redfall isn't doing anything to change that. The much anticipated co-op vampire hunting FPS was released on Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 2, 2023, free to Game Pass subscribers but with a $70 price tag for everyone else.

It's Been Too Long Since Xbox Had A Must-Play Exclusive The list of Xbox exclusives over the past few years is short, and at times controversial. The latest installment in the Halo franchise was divisive, in no small part due to Halo Infinite's hefty microtransactions. Forza Horizon 5, meanwhile, was a critical and commercial success. However, there are few other crowd-pleasing exclusive games on the Xbox Series X and S.

PlayStation Has Consistently Delivered Quality Exclusives While Xbox exclusives have been in dire straits, the PS5 has had a series of big, exclusive hits. Beginning with the Demon's Souls remake, which released as a launch title, and extending through the releases of Returnal, God of War: Ragnarök, and Horizon Forbidden West, including its excellent Burning Shores DLC, the PS5's exclusive catalog is full of big-name successes.

In addition to potentially spreading the company too thin, Microsoft's many acquisitions have repeatedly caused legal troubles. Most recently, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority blocked Microsoft's attempt to purchase Activision Blizzard, claiming it would give Microsoft too large a share of the video game market, particularly with regard to the cloud gaming sphere. For their part, executives at Microsoft intend to appeal this decision and move forward with the acquisition.
