MLB has handed down suspensions for the massive Reds-Pirates brawl.
was just hit with an 8 game suspension for trying to fight the entire Pittsburgh Pirates team .
The incident occurred during Tuesday night's Reds-Pirates game at Great American Ball Park in Cinci ... when tensions between the teams reached a boiling point and a brawl ensued.threw a 97 MPH fastball near the head of Reds OF Derek Dietrich in the 7th.Garrett came into the game in relief and surrendered a 3 run home run ... prompting a mound visit from a Reds coach.
During the visit, several Pirates players were chirping from the dugout ... and that's when Garrett lost it.Trevor Williamsand both managers -- got involved in the fracas ... pushing and throwing punches. The fight was eventually broken up and order was restored ... and now MLB has handed down suspension.Garrett received 8 games"inciting the bench-clearing" brawl.Reds pitcher Hughes got 3 games for"intentionally" hitting Pirates OF Starling Marte.Puig -- who was traded later that night to the Indians -- got 3 games for"aggressive actions" in the fight.
"Everyone on the field should be aware of the example they are setting for fans, particularly young people. I firmly expect these two managers and all others to hold their players accountable for appropriate conduct and to guide them in the right direction.”
