Remote work is killing Florida as a retirement paradise

Peter Murphy, a cofounder of the Tampa, Florida, real-estate brokerage HomeProp, attributed the state's rising housing costs to a combination of factors, including low supply of new or vacant homes, a growing population, and an influx of out-of-state homebuyers who can afford to spend more than their Floridian counterparts.
The political influence of Florida retirees is so significant that national publications send reporters to The Villages before elections to check its political pulse.In the national market,"Florida remains a very good value for money," Murphy told me, adding:"The median-priced home in the Florida market is around the high $300,000s to low $400,000s — so compared to what folks are coming out of in the Northeast, that's a small fraction of what a similar home sells for there.
People who are looking to sell their homes to relocate to Florida will still get more for their money than they would in more expensive states like California or New York, but they should expect to pay more now than they would've a few years ago. For those who are already retired, rising property values are both a blessing and a curse.
