EXCLUSIVE — Rep. Chip Roy sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas inquiring about terrorists crossing the border illegally and requesting a briefing about them.
The letter, which was sent Thursday, cites statistics that show in fiscal 2023, 169 known and suspected terrorists were encountered at the border, which set a new record and was more than the last six years combined.“In fact, the Southwest border is so prone to infiltration by individuals with ties to extremist groups, CBP recently issued a memo warning of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah members potentially crossing the border,” the letter reads.
So, the Texas Republican is requesting a briefing on how many KSTs have been encountered at the southern border since January 2021, their country of origin, their terrorist group affiliation, any documented criminal or terrorist activity they are involved in, their whereabouts since Border Patrol officials encountered them, as well as the estimated number of KSTs who were able to evade capture from Border Patrol.
