Donald Trump has called for the suspension of the U.S. Constitution, and yet, the GOP continues to stand with him.
George Stephanopoulos
asked Joyce, who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, if he could “support a candidate in 2024 who’s for suspending the Constitution,” the Ohio lawmaker ducked the question, saying that it was too early to decide which Republican candidate he would back in 2024. After further pressure from Stephanopoulos to answer the original question, Joyce concluded that he would support “whoever the Republican nominee is.
“That’s a remarkable statement. You’d support a candidate who’s come out for suspending the Constitution?” the host pressed, with Joyce replying, “You know, he says a lot of things—you have to take him in context,” before trailing off. Joyce ultimately closed the interview by shrugging off Trump’s comments as a “fantasy” that should not be taken seriously.
