For more than three hours in 97 degree heat, she asked grocery shoppers to help her decriminalize marijuana.
The campaign to decriminalize recreational marijuana in Lubbock is the latest in a long struggle for cannabis supporters in the Lone Star State, which, unlike neighboring states, has long resisted legalizing the drug. If the suggested change becomes local law, Lubbock would be the largest Texas city to decriminalize the drug through the petition process.

The February poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8%.petition in August and has until Oct.
Even though young people of color are the ones being arrested in most cases, Hernandez suggested many people in Lubbock use marijuana. Charelle Lett, a legal expert with the Texas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, said the decriminalization policy should stand if adopted.
