Ric Ocasek, founding member and lead singer of The Cars, died Sunday in New York City, the NYPD confirmed. He was 75.
Ocasek was found unresponsive at his East 19th Street residence in Manhattan and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Ocasek, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, released seven studio albums with The Cars within the years of 1978 to 2011, beginning with their hit self-titled album featuring the singles "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Good Times Roll."
Throughout the band's career, The Cars charted with 13 top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with four of them in the top 10, as well as five top 10 albums on the Billboard 200.
