Rice will look to break through and beat Western Kentucky for the first time as the Owls...

Rice's Luke McCaffrey has a team-leading 51 receptions for 656 yards and six touchdowns in his first season at receiver after switching from cornerback.Based on series history and how the teams fared against Charlotte this season, it is not exactly promising for Rice, which is looking to beat Western Kentucky for the first time. Rice is winless in three meetings with WKU, including last year’s 42-21 decision in Houston.

In a shocking outcome, visiting Charlotte easily handed Rice a 56-23 loss in late October in the first game under the 49ers’ interim head coach. Last week WKU demolished the 49ers 59-7 in Charlotte. Here are five things to watch as Rice and WKU are two of five C-USA teams remaining in the chase to play in the conference championship game.A win over the Hilltoppers would make Rice bowl eligible for the first time since 2015, the last time the Owls won five games in a season. The Hilltoppers need seven wins on the season to reach conditional bowl eligibility since they play a 13-game schedule. WKU is looking to secure a fourth straight bowl berth and eighth in the past nine years.
