is set to debut her first Fenty collection with LVMH via a pop-up shop in Paris this week, easily the most highly anticipated fashion drop in recent memory. Still, if you’ve been paying close attention, you’ll know that the musician turned mogul has been test-driving her own creations for months now.
Fans got their first glimpse at Rihanna’s vision for Fenty back in January, when she headed out to 718 Spank’s concert in New York. Clad in an oversized blazer and Balenciaga’s knife boots, she accessorized with a dramatic pair of shield sunglasses that would later be revealed as her own design. The break from the tiny shades trend caught the attention of the paparazzi and devoted Instagram fans alike, who began to speculate on their origin.
Since then, nearly every unidentifiable piece within the star’s wardrobe has been rumored to be a part of the label. Now thathas been released on Instagram, some of those missing credits seem to be tracing back to Rihanna’s own hand: the corseted chartreuse mini-dress she wore at Fenty Beauty’s London party back in April, the coral suit and matching fanny pack she chose for a business meeting later that same week—pieces that will soon be available for the masses.
Designers are usually their own best ambassadors—can anyone wear a Tom Ford suit like the man himself?—and the eclecticism of Rihanna’s style speaks to the future of her brand. While Fenty’s full output is certain to comprise multiple products across several categories, the previews she’s given thus far is promising. After all, who wouldn’t want to wear corsetry and denim-on-denim with the same swagger as the superstar herself.
