• References to a retired football player as, for example, a “former NFL great.” AAAARGGHHH! Once a “great,” always a “great.” One’s greatness is not revoked upon retirement. Why does anyone think that “it’s just a dog” will make anyone feel better? If Oscar — my Scottish terrier — was “just a dog,” then Michelangelo was “just a painter.”
