📬 New Rockies Mailbag • Daniel Bard's anxiety • Colorado's fifth starter • Lack of speed • And more...
Any word on how Daniel Bard is doing, Patrick? He’s been such a nice feel-good story over the past few years. I’d hate to see him struggle mentally again.I have had my own battles with anxietyHe’s such a good person and he’s very self-aware, which can be a blessing and a curse, but I believe he’s going to figure it out. He’s been through this before and he has an understanding of what he’s dealing with.
There is no question that a lack of quality depth in the starting rotation is the Rockies’ Achilles’ heel right now. Long reliever Connor Seabold is an option, I suppose, but he doesn’t look like the answer, either. The thing that frustrates the Rockies about Feltner is that they believe he has decent stuff but his lack of pitch command hurts him.
With the new rules changes now in effect, what tricks have the teams come up with to take advantage of the new rules?Tim, there is no question that the new rules are changing the game. I don’t know that anyone has come up with “tricks” yet. That’s going to take more time.• Through the first three days of the season, the games were faster. The average game time was 2 hours 41 minutes — 23 minutes faster than the average nine-inning game last season.
