CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Rocky River police officer has been replaced as a school resource officer after a report of what authorities are calling an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.
Bernhardt, who is currently on leave from the Rocky River Police Department, was accused of “inappropriate communications and possibly improper contact” with a girl last spring when she was a senior at the high school, authorities said. Bernhardt also messaged numerous times about the girl’s approaching 18th birthday. After she turned 18, the messages were “sexual in nature, including specific requests for sex from Officer Bernhardt,” according to the investigation’s report.
Maloney said he considered several felony charges in the investigation, but he does “not see grounds for criminal charges at this point.”
