A rollover crash on Interstate 280 near San Mateo early Sunday left one person dead.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene. After a preliminary investigation, officers said that a Volkswagen was southbound on I-280 when it made a sharp left turn for “unknown reasons.” The car drove into a concrete pillar supporting the Highway 92 overcrossing and overturned, then came to rest in the fast lane.

The Volkswagen’s driver, a 39-year-old San Francisco woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not been identified.
