The French producers, including France’s Alain Goldman, Italy’s Luca Barbareschi, and the main cast,
“An Officer and a Spy,” which premieres Friday night in competition and screened for the press earlier today, has been getting fairly solid word of mouth. Seigner, who has been married to Polanski for 30 years, said “An Officer and A Spy” marked her sixth film with the director. Asked why she thought her husband was so obsessed with the theme of persecution in his film, Seigner said “it was simple to understand.” “Just look at his life,” said Seigner.
Goldman also addressed the rise of antisemitism in Europe, one of the film’s central themes, and said “cinema is one of the ways to counter ignorance, which is probably at the roots of what happened through the 20th century… including the Holocaust.” The producer said Picquart was an exceptional man who could give a lot of hope for the generations to come and inspire them to strive for justice and truth.
