Rudi Valentino, a male orangutan and one of the Houston Zoo's longtime residents, has passed away at the age of 45.
Valentino first came to the zoo in 1978 at the age of two months. Since then, he's became the oldest living male orangutan in North America,, and he became the star artist for the zoo's"Pongos Helping Pongos" art auction and exhibit.earlier this month, and the Houston Zoo team made sure he had his favorite treats.
"He will grab a piece of browse and poke at keepers and try to touch them. If he touches you, the best thing to do is act super dramatically and fall over. Rudi LOVES to do this and will keep poking at keepers and watching them closely,” said one of his keepers in a statement.
