The island school has been without a full-time president since the sudden and controversial departure of Dr. Ben Raimer. On Aug. 8, University of Texas System Chancellor James B. Milliken announced to faculty that Raimer, who last year became the school’s president, had been placed on administrative leave. Raimer later resigned.
Reiser has been with Rush University since 2012. Before coming to Chicago, he graduated from Ruprecht Karls University in Germany and previously worked as a professor at the University of Miami, where he also served as interim chair of medicine. Reiser is known for research on kidney disease, with a focus on molecular biology and genetics, according to his profile on the university’s website. He has also directed a National Institutes of Health-funded research laboratory on investigation into the kidney.
Now that regents have selected Reiser as a finalist, they must wait 21 days before officially naming him to the position.
