Russia’s new Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has tested positive for the coronavirus

A spokesman for the prime minister, Boris Belyakov, said that face-to-face communication between government members and Mishustin was limited as recent as two weeks ago. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov will take over for Mishustin as well as keep with his previous duties.

As of April 30, the coronavirus has infected 106,498 people in Russia, according to Russian government figures. In Moscow, the epicenter of the virus, some 53,739 people have gotten it and more than 47,000 have been hospitalized. Mishustin follows British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the second Prime Minister stricken by COVID-19, the disease caused by the new SARS coronavirus first discovered in Wuhan, China. Johnson was recently released from the hospital after about two weeks in intensive care.
